Clapham Rail Bridge Design Winner

Following the completion of Phase 2 of the Clapham Rail Bridge Design Competition we are delighted to announce Makower Architects as the overall winner of the competition.

The winning Phase 2 design team, led by Makower Architects, included Light Follows Behaviour, CAST, Aspect Studios, Velocity, Ramboll and Common Works.

The judges praised the team’s ambitious and cohesive vision for the Clapham North railway bridge and clock tower, recognising its potential to create a distinctive gateway to Clapham while establishing a strong and unified identity for the wider High Street and surrounding area.

The proposal was particularly commended for its placemaking approach, architectural quality, and its ability to connect the bridge, public realm, and wider town centre into a coherent and memorable destination.

The judging panel looks forward to working with the winning team to further develop the concept, incorporating feedback received during the competition process from judges, stakeholders, businesses and members of the public.

The Clapham Society and This is Clapham BID would like to thank all of the design teams that participated in both phases of the competition. The quality of submissions was exceptionally high, demonstrating a deep understanding of both the brief and the unique character of Clapham.

The organisers would also like to thank the 2,250 members of the public who engaged with the competition and voted for their preferred designs. Public participation played an important role in helping to shape the judges’ understanding of community aspirations for the area.
