From Johannesburg to South London, by way of Ecuador, Ghana, and Indonesia. This talk introduces Gasworks, an organisation based in Oval known for its international residencies, exhibitions, and artist studios. Founded in 1994 by a group of enterprising artists, Gasworks has grown into a globally connected hub for artistic exchange, supporting more than 700 artists from over 100 countries over the past three decades. Led by curator Rosa Tyhurst, the talk will trace the organisation’s evolution from an artist-led initiative into a vital part of London’s contemporary art landscape. Our Speaker

Rosa Tyhurst is a curator from South Wales and based in South London. She currently works as curator at Gasworks, London, where she collaboratively devises and delivers a programme of exhibitions, residencies, public programmes and participation projects. Prior to Gasworks, she worked at Nottingham Contemporary and at Spike Island, Bristol. Rosa has curated exhibitions and programmes internationally, at Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Torino (IT); the Wattis Institute, San Francisco (US); Cloaca, San Francisco (US); Royal Nonesuch Gallery, Oakland (US) and DREI, Köln (DE). Her writing has been published in Art Monthly, Elephant, Hyperallergic, Contemporary Art Reviews Los Angeles, ArtPractical, and she has contributed to publications on Veronica Ryan, Candice Lin and Peggy Ahwesh.
