Graham Greene set The End of the Affair on North Side and Ian McEwan has two of his characters (in Atonement) visiting Clapham and Holy Trinity Church. Clapham has long been the inspiration for novelists, among them local authors Elizabeth Buchan and Julie Anderson. Each has set one of their bestselling novels, The New Mrs Clifton (Elizabeth) and The Midnight Man (Julie), in Clapham in 1946. In their talk they will cover how they conducted their research, why they chose the settings and the themes that run through those titles.
