Beating the Bounds: A walking tour around the Clapham parish boundary

  • Date: 24th May
  • Time: 10:00:am
  • Distance: 9.5 miles
  • Duration: 6.5 hours

Led by members of the Clapham Society History Group, this extended walk re-enacts the ancient custom of Beating the Bounds around the edge of the old parish boundary. Starting at the bandstand on the Common, the circular route will include short talks on buildings and events of interest, with stopping points for refreshment and lunch at the Brixton Windmill. Along the route we’ll be spotting the 35+ boundary marker posts that have survived.

Timed for Rogation Day, this walk is organised jointly with Lambeth Archives and the Streatham Society, each with their own events covering the three ancient parishes of modern Lambeth.
