Clapham in World War II
To mark the 80th anniversary of World War II in Europe, Tom Jansz leads this walk around Clapham Common, telling the story of how the war affected the lives of Clapham residents. Topics covered include the bomb damage sustained by several Clapham landmark buildings, eyewitness accounts of how domestic life changed and the effects of air raids, information about the Clapham South Deep Shelter, and how large parts of the Common were taken over by the military and other war effort activities.
PLEASE NOTE This walk meets up at, and leaves from, the Clock Tower outside Clapham Common tube station NOT the Clapham Common Bandstand as stated in some printed material.
Free, but please book in advance with tom.jansz@hotmail.co.uk
