Clapham Society AGM with presentation from Clapham Business Improvement District.
At our AGM we will review the past year including our accounts, elect new committee members and present our future projects, including those where we are working alongside Clapham BID.
The talk which follows will explore how the Clapham Business Improvement District (Clapham BID) operates and the role it plays in supporting Clapham. Jeremy Keates, manager of Clapham BID, will explain how the organisation has worked since 2014, to bring businesses together and deliver improvements that benefit traders, residents and visitors alike. The presentation will also consider how the role of BIDs has evolved over the past decade and the opportunities and challenges they face in shaping the future of town centres such as Clapham.
Our Speaker
Jeremy Keates – Manager Clapham Business Improvement Business (Clapham BID)
Jeremy studied International Politics at Keele University and his early career included various roles, including a year teaching English in a gold mine in the Peruvian Andes, before gaining a Diploma in Local Government and a role in neighbourhood management at Leeds City Council. He later joined the Economic Development Team at Lambeth Council.
Towards the end of his time at Lambeth, his principal role was as Town Centre Manager for Brixton and Clapham, although in practice he worked across the whole borough. This was a period of significant financial pressure on local government, with councils reassessing how they could continue to deliver important but non-statutory services, such as town centre management, in the face of reducing budgets.
Jeremy has led the Clapham BID for the last few years and has been involved with various projects such as the regeneration of Clapham Old Town and the green space outside Clapham Common tube station.
