The History Of Clapham Common
This walk traces the history of Clapham Common from medieval grazing ground, through it becoming a place of recreation for the 18th century incomers who built villas around it, its associations with The Clapham Sect. We witness Clapham’s transformation from rural village to Victorian suburb and home of some notable residents, to its important community role in WW2, and finally to today’s green recreational heart of our thriving and multi-cultural area.
Leader: Tom Jansz
The walk leaves from Clapham Common Bandstand at 2.30 pm
