The publishers present a talk by members of the society about the book and its subjects.

The Clapham Society published the book about the architects, Edward I’Anson and his sons, by Peter Jefferson Smith after the author’s death in 2018.

About the Talk

Alyson Wilson, Andrew Saint and Timothy Walker are the three Speakers giving this talk which was made for the Lambeth Heritage Festival 2020

Alyson Wilson‘s Introduction is about Peter Jefferson Smith, the author, and his life and achievements.
The book was completed after his death and Alyson goes on to speak about the decision to publish it and the people who helped edit and prepare it for publication.

Andrew Saint Speaks about the three Edward I’Ansons, the subjects of the story, who were three generations of extraordinary creative men.
Andrew explains their different characters, their working roles and his own interest in these fascinating people.
He speaks about the effects of their work on London where much of their work was carried out in the 19th century.

Timothy Walker shows several of the buildings in Clapham and South London built or designed by the I’Ansons, while speaking about their history, customs of the time and how they came to be built.

Alyson Wilson concludes the talk with more pictures of buildings, people and interesting details such as  Edward I’Anson jr’s family home in Grayshott village.
She speaks of reasons for her own interest and why the book may be interesting to you.
